Good morning, C. N., and welcome to Vision and Verse, the place for Art and Authors. What have you written?

Five books from two series are published so far. Shadow Over Avalon, Sword of Shadows, Chalice of Shadows, Darkspire Reaches and Serpent of the Shangrove. More are pending.

What is your favorite genre to write?

Fantasy/Science Fantasy

Favorite food. 

Steak

Tea or coffee?

Coffee

Pizza or ice cream? 

Pizza

Wine or beer? 

Beer

Where would you like to visit? 

Pompeii. I have never been there.

Pompeii was a real eye-opener. Go! I was amazed at the roadways and public utilities, water pipes in the ground with little shut-off valves if you didn't pay your bill. Such an advanced society.

Do you listen to music when you write?  What?  
I don’t generally listen as I am too deeply into my story.

What makes you laugh? 

Jokes, comedy sometimes. Spontaneous humor.

Favorite work of art or sculpture. 

Turner, the painting of Venice.

How old were you when you started writing? 

About seven when I realized how much I loved writing.

Do you plan out your book with outlines and notecards? Or just write? 
I am a pantzer. I never plan as the story has gotten away from me every time I tried that.

Describe your perfect evening. 

Sitting out on the deck on a nice summer evening with a cold beer.

Where do you get your inspiration? 

Usually from dreams. All my best stories have come from there.

What do you do when you get a writer's block? 

Switch to another story. I usually have two or more on the go at the same time.

Who is your favorite author? 

J.R.R Tolkein.

Best book you ever read. 

Lord of the Rings

Last book you read. 

I am in the middle of an elemental witch series by Lucretia Stanhope. Love it.

What would you do for a living if you weren’t a writer? 

Maybe paint pictures.

Who is the one person who has influenced your personal life the most and why?
My husband. We fell in love. 

If you could sit down and have a conversation with ONE person, living or dead, real or fictional, who would it be and why?

J.R.R Tolkein. He used to have writer group meetings in the Eagle and Child in Oxford. The group were called the Inklings and I would love to have sat in on one of those meetings.

What advice would you give someone who aspired to be a writer?

Read a lot and decide what it is you 
want to write.
